What are some cheep lt1 mods
My old LT1 was stock when I purchased it.
I installed a used moroso CAI ($75)
Used nitrous kit ($175)
J. Solomon tune (Cant remember but I think $100)
Tuning cable ($60)
colder plugs (~$20)
I also changed the plug wires, and cut out cat converter.
I ran a 13.3 on a 2.0 60' on a 75 shot. I sold the car before I could run the 125 shot at the track.
I say some sticky tires on the 125 would get mid 12's. But then you have to worry about the 10 bolt, etc.....
So in a nut shell I agree with wysemunky "NITROUS"

BTW, wrong section. This should go in the LT1 forum, not general maintinence. Mods will probably move it soon.

This was worth every penny, huge difference on my 1995 Pontiac Formula. The I got a Hypertech reprogrammer http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HYP-30026/
With the reprogrammer, I adjusted the shift firmness and shift points, rev limiiter and removed the top speed limiter (my Formula had 2.73 gears and didn't have the ZR tires from the factory). I also tuned for higher octan fuel, turned the fans on earlier but couldn't do the highest setting tune because my thermostat was still stock.
These two mods dropped my car from a 14.4@95mph to 13.9 @101!
Now there are many other options out there besides K&N and Hypertech that will produce similar results, and possibly even better results being that I did this back in 1996.
A stall converter would be a huge improvement but you need other mods to go along with it: tune the computer, trans cooler, possibly a shift improver kit. The 4l60e trans in these cars is fairly weak in stock form and may not last too long with a stall but some do get lucky though. if you don't have the cash for a decent catback then just throw in a cutout in the intermediate pipe. Long tube headers and a GOOD y-pipe often net about 15-20 RWHP too.
