Default how do i fix broken ash tray door

I have a 98 m6 camaro and I just installed a short shifter and the ash tray door stays open which gets in the way of me shifting into fourth gear. It hits my hand when I shift it. When I close the door it will shut but if I stop it just flings opens. I cannot keep the dang thing closed. How do I fix this problem other than using glue or tape lol!

Same problem here. I found out the there is a spring that keeps it closed but I have no idea where to hook the other side of it too. If you pull out the the actual tray you should see it. Could replace the little light in there too if yours is burnt out and it bothers you. A 194 bulb fits.

Well I figured it out. Here is how it's supposed to look:

Where the spring attatches closer to the top of the picture broke on my car. Tried to superglue it back together but the glue isn't strong enough to hold it when you try to open the lid. Guess it's time for a new console. Hopefully you get lucky. You can get a new spring if need be at the various parts websites.
