starter wont stop turning... help please
hey everyone, ok so i got a corvette c5 here that the starter wont stop turning when battery is connected...
Connections:
1) i have the little purple wire were its supposed to be on the starter
2) i have the red battery wire, the rusty orange wire and the grey wire all going to the positive terminal on the starter
3) i have the negative battery wire going to the block right next to the starter along with a ground in that area going to the same spot.....
4) then i have the ground on the block on the other side of the motor(drivers side) near the oil filter
5) i have the ground 'strap' going from the engine block (on the driver side) to the body (right under the break booster)
am i missing something?
Problem:
pretty much what its doing is as soon as i hook the positive wire on the battery (negative wire is already hooked to battery at this time) the starter starts to turn over but the motor wont tun over (there is no key in the ignition btw) it sounds like the starter is free spinning...
once i put the key in the ignition there is not change, and there is no change when i turn the key to position one.. i hear a very slight change on the way the starter sounds when i turn the key to 'start the motor' but the engine wont turn over yet the starter is still spinning... it just sounds like its free spinning the entire time with key or no key...
what is going on here?
what am i missing?
any help or advise would be greatly appreciated
