Default Upgrading to Truck Alternator

So I've read on here before (I can't find the topic now) that the 100 amp alternator on our LS1 F-Bodies can be replaced with the 155 amp alternators that came with some of the mid 2000's SUVs, as long as you drill the additional hole needed. The part I forgot was whether you needed to relocate the alternator to use it.

Don't think so. I'm pretty sure it would just be cheaper instead of buying a whole new alternator to get yours re-wound to whatever amp you want? Correct?

Well mine is on it's way to a slow and painful death, so I'll have to replace it regardless.

why do you want a truck alternator?
do you even need one?

going to a bigger, true high-output, alternator also uses more hp.

just get a reman'd with a warranty from a local parts store.

the issue is not with the total output of the alternator, such as 100amp vs 155amp.
the issue is usually at idle or low rpm and the alternator not spinning fast enough to provide the needed power, and can be solved with an aftermarket alternator pulley that is slightly smaller which will spin the alt. faster, and can be gotten for < $50 last I checked.

Where would you get these aftermarket pulleys? I really don't want to cruise the local wrecking yard...

i have the truck alt......1 of the best mods i ever did.....its a very easy bolt on...the problem with the stock alt is its puny size with crappy internals.......which gets worse when you buy remans from your local parts store.....the stock 105 is BARELY enough to run the engine.....the truck alt puts out twice the amps at HALF the speed
