With all of the work you have to do I really don't blame them for charging sometimes over a grand to replace those things...

I'd say Saving that kind of money on doing it yourself is worth the try. Just think. New parts with the extra money haha

No one should be discouraged from doing their own fuel pump swap. Anyone that knows how to use basic hand tools and a decent amount of patience can pull it off. And, that's around a grand you save right there...

ok ive decided to take this on finally.. im going to try the rear hatch by cutting out a section over the pump.

i read in the manual that in with the ls1's the ENTIRE fuel pump assembly needs to be replaced.. is that right?

has anyone here replaced the pump only on an ls1??

bump on the question can only the pump be replaced or does the entire assembly have to be changed? anyone done the pump only?

I'm not certain, but as you can see on ebay there're pump-only auctions which would lead me to believe that you could break down the module and just replace the pump itself. If it were me, and I had the money, I would prefer to replace the entire module. I'd hate to button all that back up only to see the sending unit not working all of a sudden, etc.

By the way, can you believe the prices on those freaking modules? One had a 3.8L module for $700!!

last question... i hope

how unsafe is it to use a wheel cutter to cut the sheet metal over the fuel pump? sparks and all? chance of it blowing me up?

lastly im buying a used fuel pump assembly from ebay.. what do you guys think of that?
