Question ABS Light always on even when disconnecting battery then reconnecting

car is 97 z28 auto

I have scanned the codes and nothing for brakes/abs. 275/40/ZR17 TIRES. stock diameter far as I know. third brake light works as I have heard this can throw it but I did disconnect it to detail the car for a while but reconnected it is still on before and after.

Have not done any work on the brakes recently but I want to get this solved..any ideas?

Exclamation

have only pulled codes with a generic reader so maybe that is why there are no codes showing? would autozone be able to scan them?

check the fluid level in the brake master cylinder resevoir. There's a sensor that will illuminate either the abs, brake, or check gages light. Disconnect the plug to the sensor and jumper the plug with a paper clip or something and see if the light goes out, worst case is you have a bad sensor.

I'd expect that you should have codes if the light is on. What brand of generic code reader are you using?

Most generic readers don't read ABS codes. If your fluid level sensor was bad the RED brake warning light would be on. I would look into wheel speed sensors, could just be dirty or bad wire. Most high end scanners like a MODUS or of course a TECH2 would tell you exactly which one.
