This thread has a procedure for doing the adjustment. Its a total PITA and needs to be done twice at each wheel, with the tire and disk brake caliper off:

Too bad that old myth about going in reverse about 10mph and hitting the brakes real hard to make them work again doesn't really work........ lol

That's how they adjust as the pads wear down. Since the parking brake pads don't wear down, (assuming you aren't drifting with the car) they have a different type of mechanism that doesn't self-adjust.
