this one has me baffled and i've been turning wrenches for decades. 2001 z28 m6. 115k on the odometer. whenever i go wot, i here a popping/tapping noise and get quite a bit of hesitation. it's not consistent however doesn't raise with rpm and it's not a linear tapping until i'm in higher gear or loads(more like quick bursts). i've logged the car with hptuners and it shows 0 kr and my fueling and timing seems to be perfectly inline. the noise is actually the worst if i punch it at lower rpms in a higher gear creating more load on the motor.

so far I've pulled the valve covers and rotated the engine, the rockers and push rods seem fine. i need head gaskets and bolts before i can check the lifters though. before anyone says it, I've already checked for exhaust leaks and there are none.

oh yah mods are an SLP lid and that's it. bone stock for the most part.

i have no problems rebuilding the motor if need be, just want to find the issue before it does something to the block.
