Changed my Fuel Filter Today
Just bought the car a few weeks ago and this was the first weekend that I got to do some work on it. It has 147,000 miles on it and is a 99 z28. One of the things I definetly wanted to do was change the fuel filter.
It was a lot harder than it should have been because the fuel line nut had rusted to the fuel filter. It took me about an hour and half a can of PB Blaster but I finally got it off.
Who knows how long it was on there but the car is running much stronger now. The work was definitely worth it.
My advice to anyone who hasn't done this before is to make sure that you bleed the fuel lines with the schrader valve or whatever its called. I didn't do that because someone said that less than an ounce would come out. Well that was not the case for me and I still smell like gas so just take the time to do it right.
Again this has made a big difference for me so definitely worth the time....

ive been meaning to do this also. my car has a little les mileage than yours at 75k, but i know that changing the stock plug wires that have never been changed fixed a random misfire and now im thinking that changing out the stock fuel pump will definetly be worth it too.

how exactly did u change out da fuel filter? i bought the part to change it out but never got to it cuz it jus looked so complicated and i didnt wanna mess anything up... is this very difficult or could someone like me (who seriously only knows how to do basic things like oil changes and such) actually do it?

its really not that hard as long as you can get the car in the air enough to get under it. Mine was just hard because of the rust on it. If it hadn't been for that it would have taken me 5 minutes.
Make sure you bleed the fuel lines though. Its been 24 hours and 2 showers later and I still smell like gas.

I also need to do this. I bought the filter last year, but still haven't done it. I don't get bad gas mileage, but I don't know when the last owner changed it. I have 132,636 miles and have done mostly everything else, but the fuel filter. Maybe this weekend so I can install my tranny and power steering coolers.

I recently changed mine, just because I had no idea when it was last changed.
The car has 96,000 miles. When I got it off I dumped the fuel that was in the filter into a clear bottle, and kind of banged the filter around a bit to see what would come out of it. You would not believe how nasty it looked. The crap I dumped into the bottle was completely black and I could barely blow through the filter. At least I know it was doing it's job lol.
