The service vehicle soon light indicates problems outside of emissions and driveability. The BCM (Body Control Module) usually is in involved with SVS lights.

It can mean a ton of different things.

Go to an auto parts store, most of them offer free scans to tell you what the code is. Then tell us what that code is.

anyone know if smog can still be passed with this light on? I know it doesn't have anything to do with emissions but who knows with California smog tests.

It most likely is due to an ABS problem.

Yes, you can pass smog like this...

point out to the smog technician that the SVS indicator is different than the MIL indicator;

I have had the SVS indicator turn on during a smog test (due to appreciable difference in speed between rear wheels and front wheels).

It basically just regulates and operates electronic devices throughout the car. From what I've heard, it could be something as simple as a bulb burnt out, like you stated you had.

Mines a similar situation as the OP my Service Vehicle light randomly will come on and stay on till the car is turned off and will not return for another while so its never all the time on. I'm figuring mine has to do with the my ABSInop/ASROff/BRAKE lights being and staying on due to either the bad wheel sensor or ABS module messed up. Other then that I checked everything nothing is dirty, unplugged or bad looking but still next time it comes on ill get it scanned before it goes off again.

unless you look at the codes stored in the computer, you don't know what set it off. Why guess at it? get a code scanner and look at the stored codes, any parts store should be able to do that. The SES light does not need to be on to check for thrown codes.

my bet is on P1415 or P1416, if it's those they will cause the SES light to come on and go off. fix by replacing both air check valves for $25,

Everywhere I'd been to around the south bay, I was told that if the Check Engine light is on, they won't pass you unless it's a quick fix. For me, it was as simple as buying a new gas cap...code did not come up after they cleared it.
