Default Problem w/Gauge/Radio Lighting

I have an issue that I can't seem to pinpoint where the it resides for sure.
Yesterday while driving I turned on the headlights & had to turn up the brightness level on the control switch to see my gauges.
It started smokin' & I immediately turned it back down.
Today I removed it & noticed there must have been some extreme heat in there as the rolling adjustment **** had been melted & the heatsink actually melted into the switch base a bit.

Lucky for me, I have a spare!
(Yes, I've started hoarding spare parts.)

So I put it in, checked all the fuses in the left side of the dash, & all the fuses under the hood. All good as far as I can tell. Did NOT find any burnt out.

But, I still have no gauge panel or radio lights when I turn on the light switch. I can roll the brightness level switch & see the light function come on/off on the steering wheel, but still nothing in the gauge face or radio.

The gauge panel has not been out of the car.
I've driven it a few days ago with no issues that I ever remember.

I've been in the console changing shift *****, so I'll look in there tomorrow for any shorts, etc.

Where do I look next? What could be the issue?

Edit: I should probably note that the radio lighting is on when the headlights are off. But as soon as you turn on the headlights, they go off & the dimmer/brightness level still does not work with the replacement switch package.

Default

Maybe there's a short somewhere else that caused the switch to overheat?
You'd think there'd be a fuse that would blow before this could happen, ...
