oh and btw, the filter fits up inside the second hole which pretty much keeps it from ever touching the blower in motion.

Thats my problem. I know Im loosing pressure because of that gap. Not to mention the noise. Wish I knew wtf this blower came out of because the bolt holes do line up. I could easily get another blower but Im sure the connector wont mach the one thats supposed to be in my car. Cant think of any other reason why they would cut out the old one... So, problem...

We have a cabin filter? LOL, I guess it's time to replace my original filter. Thanks for the write-up!

No, none of the 4th gens have a cabin filter. This was a write up on how to add one.

Ahh, OK. In the bottom photo it appears the pleats are tight against one another. Is that just an illusion? I would think that tight pleats would hamper air pressure; I certainly don't want my A/C working any less effectively

Neat idea. What about when the A/C drain plugs up and water gets into the car (Happened to me before)? Any idea if the filter would get wet too?

JimMueller - That was an illusion, its not a complete seal but my idea was to keep most of the really loose grass clippings and dirt from getting inside, Ever since i did this install I have definately noticed a decrease of debris getting past the filter. It does work tremedously.

To the others it doesnt get wet at all, it is put in behind the water block so I have never got any water or mildew smell from the filter. Also there has not been any buildup or any decrease in air flow. I am assuming from the performance of the filter so far, it will probably last for a year and possibly even more.

If theres any more questions i'll be on more frequently this week.

Man that thing is nasty! How the hell do rocks get in there? I can see a leaf sliding between the windshield and cowl, but not a rock.

Lol I have no clue, just glad it didnt shoot through the AC and into my eye, the crazy thing is I prolly used my AC only 20-30 days throughout that entire time and thats all that got pulled through, If i used it everyday I would have had to change that looooong ago.

Did this and works great! Kills the air volume that comes out of the vents, but I guess that just means I have the filter in there really well. Theres no more dust/dirt coming out of the vents when I turn them on. Thanks for the idea.

Alright question. My second gen eclipse is a daily driver with a similar setup, however the ac has an option to recirculate meaning it draws air from just the cabin. Granted when I pulled the fan it was filled with carpet but the car always smells good.

So can you block it from drawing outside air and just pull air from inside the cabin?

I thought that's what the A/C MAX setting is??? If that's the case, why not just leave it on MAX, rather than go through the trouble of permanently blocking the ability to draw air from outside?

Does anybody have a part number for a filter that I can use so I don't have to measure?

Thought this post was worth resurrecting. I just went on a long trip (700 miles round trip). My blower fan started making a buzzing sound and sometimes the airflow was hugely diminished. I dropped my blower fan and the pics tell the rest of the story.

I was getting some leaf noise from the blower motor, so I thought I'd check the custom cabin filter I installed years ago with the above instructions. I didn't realize it had been seven years, I thought perhaps 2-3 years max? I guess I need to do it more frequently; the pleats were basically full of dust and leaves, this is what remained after I tapped it on the ground. They didn't have the STP CAF1851P in stock, so I went with the similar size STP CAF1824P this time.
