You can find them here in the classified and on the ebay used for about $100-$150. Most of the time it's just the electric part of the module that goes bad while the mechanical part of the ABS block is still good. I bought a known good used ABS module off the classifieds, swapped just the electronic part (only six torx bits) and my ABS/BRAKE/TRAC OFF light have yet to come back on randomly like it was doing.

When you get one it has to be from a car that has the same channel rear end as yours. A three channel or four channel ABS module is not interchangeable.

so im assuming the '98 cars have the different channel than the '99 up ones because of the auburn posi instead of the torsen? any idea which one is 3 and which one is 4?

Mine did the exact same thing. It was the electronic brake control module. I got quoted over $1600 to fix it at the dealer, i found a salvage yard piece for $75 and had a local shop replace it for $75 since all my tools were in storage.

If you have ABS and Traction control you have a 4 channel rear end. If you only have ABS it is a 3 channel rear end.

Thats where I got mine, sounds like youd be cheaper off buying it from them and having it shipped than buying the $500 one. Mine cost me $75

Sorry to jump in, Im having the same issue. I don't have the brake light come on though. Mine comes on after driving on the freeway for a bit and goes off when the car sits like someone before had mentioned. Now keep in mind I just did a MWC9 rearend swap, but I was having the ASR problem prior, the ABS INOP happened after. I'm guessing the "speed sensors" are mounted on the back of the rear backing plates that are magnetic? Now the "ABS module" I have no idea what it looks like or where it's located?

The correct name for the ABS module is the electronic brake control module or ebcm. It is located on the front of the aluminum abs block on the drivers front corner of the engine bay.

thanks for all of the help guys. i got under the car again yesterday and was looking around for clues and i found 4 wires that had broken and were totally disconected right above the rear axle. i spiced them back together and everything is back to normal now. no idea how all 4 wires broke at the same time but its fixed now lol

I'm getting both lights on since I put a used cluster in. I think the cluster came from a 99 Trans Am and mine's a 98. I don't have traction control so I can understand that light being on I also have 18 inch tires and wheels in the rear but I wasnt getting the abs inop light with my other cluster. Can I/should I pull both bulbs out of the cluster?
