a/c problem
my a/c blows out air but its not cold not even cool its like room tempurature. why is this? could it be that it just needs freon or new air filters because the filters are old as hell?

All the freon leaked out somewhere or compressor is bad either way you will have to fix the problem and recharge the system after pulling a vacuume on it to boil all the water out of it.
Look at all the connections on the A/C lines and see if there is oil present. There is an o-ring at each one and sometimes they leak. DO NOT TAKE APPART THE CONNECTION WITHOUGHT EVACUATING THE A/C SYSTEM FIRST!!!

the filters would not make the air warm. Not even sure if you have cabin air filters, if this is for a 98 firebird. if you're getting decent airflow on high fan setting then that would mean the filters are not blocking the airflow.
but for warm air coming out when it should be cold and the AC is selected, the following can be causing that:
1) the AC system is low on refrigerant (it's r134a and technically not "freon")
2) the AC compressor clutch is not engaging which can be caused by a bad AC clutch relay in the underhood fuse box, or a busted wire/connector going to the AC compressor, or the PCM is not commanding the AC to run for various reasons one which may be a bad hvac head unit in your dash. Or one of the pressure switches could be bad and preventing the compressor from running.
3) the compressor is bad and not pumping refrigerant, or the orifice tube is plugged up.
while i generally agree you should have someone "qualified" check it out, there is no reason you can't be somewhat qualified and have a good idea of what's wrong before a qualified person charges you a $1000 for major AC repair when all they may have done is replace a $10 electrical relay or just charged the system a little with r134a.

A couple "free" ideas. Around here oil change places have signs out for a free AC check (trustworthy IDK). You can also go to autozone and have them check for codes - P0530 won't set the SES light for the AC pressure switch sensing you're low.

Not blowing cold? huh, Ok iw will tell you exactly what is wrong.....there is a problem with your A/C on your car. I dont mean to be rude or a ***** but there are literally a thousand things it could be and even quite possible a compounded issue. example: Low on refrigerant, excesses rrefrigerant, low pressure switch, high pressure switch, clutch, compressor, filter drier/accum, orfice, clutch voltage issue, stpped up condensor, stopped up evap, missing compressor belt etc... you have to give us more than that to help you along., Put some gauges on it first to see if it has a charge...second turn the system on and check if the clutch is engaged and turning. If it is see what the pressures are doing etc... check back with us
