Default Holy Fu%^$*( Crap......

My driverside window was stalling quite frequently lately and so I took the motor out and removed the copper thermal strip and reinstalled it and now the window operates like it should have from the factory. OMG

I takes 3 seconds to go up now. Soooo much better!

I already tried putting my hand in the window's path and it had no more pressure than my factory window in my 1999 grand prix.

God put that thermal shut-off there for a reason. (Maybe... to keep the windows from tearing apart the composite door? Maybe, to keep the wires and motor from overheating?) Its a $30 "fix" that could cost a lot more down the road.

At very least, if you are going to keep the motor like this, you should remove the express down module. It will keep power applied to the motor for long periods of time. If it is taken out, you can just rely on your fingers being on the window buttons.

The express down module senses the increase in current when the window hits bottom and turns off the power to the motor. Already looked into that situation. If there are issues I will change it out but so far it is working great with no problems.

What thermal strip are you referring to?

Inside the motor there is a multiple layer copper strip that heats up and lowers current when an abnormal load is present. They wear out and prematurely lower current. Causing the slow window we all live with. I replaced my motor with a gm unit from parts taxi for cheap but you could remove that strip and fix it 9/10 times... There is a write up around here it might pop up in a search

Who told you that? The ones I've worked with on a bench required the load to cut off before it would switch off.

You might want to put a probe on your wires and see if the one in your car is really cutting off.

Yup, checked it with a multi-meter. The window goes down all the way and then the express down module clicks and the voltage at the motor goes to zero.

Vader how long from start to finish did it take you to remove the copper wire and reinstall?

It took probably an extra 20 minutes to take the motor apart and remove the strip and put it back together.

The express down feature is easy to defeat. Just go under the steering columb and find the module mounted on the fire wall, remove it from the holder and unplug it. Now BEND TERMINAL "C" down out of the way and plug it back in. Window will now work normally without the express feature. I disable alot of these.
