Default A/C install question

Do I have to flush the system when installing a new compressor? My compressor leaked out from the case and A/C quit working, and from what I understand the compressor isn't supposed to run and tear itself up if it detects low pressure. I've bought a new compressor, orifice tube, and drier and just wanted to know if it is necessary to flush the system.

Thanks.

I think you will know once you pull out the old orifice tube. If the screen has any metal on it you probably need to flush. Don't waste your time flushing the evaporator because you will not be successful but everything else is easily done. I think autozone has a kit you can buy or rent and they also have the gauges and vacuum pump as well.

Yes - even if the otube is clean you ALWAYS need to flush a system when installing a new compressor. Do you really want that 10+ year old oil going into your brand new compressor? Plus PAG oil absorbes moisture and you must get the old stuff out before you install the new components as the old oil becomes mildly acidic/caustic.

Did you fully evac ur system? The LT1 system takes 2lbs of r134a and that is 32oz's and 2 cans is only 24oz's? You under charged your system.
