Tach jumps around

Tach jumps around Recently this started happening where i would floor my car and the tach would jump around and go crazy. I looked at the battery and the possitive terminal was corroded and junk so i replaced the battery with a new optima. I haven't had the problem since the replacement though. Today i was beating on the car and saw the tach jump around once. The battery is less than a week old, the hold down on the battery is solid, and i can't find any loose grounds. Any opinions or ideas? Alternator? Any advise or input is greatly appreciated.
