multiple issues! please help!
There is a strange ticking sound coming from somewhere near the back part of engine, my low coolant light keeps coming on but my car is never low on coolant, and my car runs very very cool. It never gets passed the 1/4 mark unless i'm sitting in heavy traffic on a 110 degree day for a long time. the check engine light is also on and the code reads random misfire. (can't remember the code number). It spits and sputters occasionally until I give it some gas and sometimes it seems to idle lower than what it should.
My husband has recently (within last 5 months or so) replaced the water pump, thermostat, radiator, 02 sensors, and something to do with the optispark. (i don't think it was the entire optispark bc those are like $300 and whatever he replaced was like $50 or $60....maybe the optispark distributor cap?...idk anyway)
A mechanic that I know told me the ticking sound sounded like a lifter tapping and to get lucas oil treatment. the noise didn't start until AFTER the last oil change and I drove 9 hours to KY. so could it possibly be a lifter tap?
any suggestions on what could cause all this crazy nonsense? i don't know much about cars but is there a possibility it could be the opti spark going completely out? It terrifies me bc its so expensive. what are the signs of an optispark going bad? Its like when one thing goes wrong EVERYTHING goes wrong. FML

Low coolant sensor's in the radiator common to go bad.
Replace or disconnect it.
The thermostat that was put in was it a lower temp one?
The sputter ses sound like a tune up problem. Plugs & wires done recently? Ever?
Opti sparks you just never know. the best way to deal with them IMO is to replace them as a maintence item ever 100K ?
That or the gauge could be off < no that never hapeens to GM cars LOL.
