Yup bearing failure in the pump. Quite common on these.

Haha same here, man. I had the exact same leak. Replaced my water pump a couple weeks ago. It's easy, you just have to get a couple things out of the way. Just torque your bolts evenly in a few passes until they're all tight. It was my first time doing one and mine is working perfectly with no leaks :knock on wood:

Actually, another pertinent question is which pump is the best option to get? I really didn't find anything definitive in searches, only more questions. I'm reading the LS2 pump replaced the LS1/6 pump, but requires you to pull the pulley out a little? How would I go about that? Does it come with gaskets? I see an Edelbrock mechanical water pump for extra cost. Anyone have experience with it/recommend it? (8862, I think? Or something like that?) The new thermostat design that I'm reading about-what does that mean? I'll compile everything I learn when I buy the pump in a single how-to like I did with the knock sensors...

I just got a new pump from napa, seems like good quality, and the price was better than anywhere else. Had to reuse my old thermostat housing and old style thermostat

Looks like it'll be a NAPA one, then, thanks. I'll do a writeup when I install. Sorry I never posted that video yet...
