ok so i have a 1995 trans am 6 speed
last friday it started doing something wierd
going down the road whether im givin it hell or just cruising it acts like it missed a stroke.
the car will act like its running out of gas for a split second
it does a little jump.
sometimes really bad
sometimes barely noticable.
what is pissing me off is it so irregular
sometimes itll do it.
then it wont
i just changed the fuel filter(needed to be done. it was pretty nasty, and plugs which i just did barely 15k miles ago.)
changing the plugs deffinatly made the car idle better
but its still jumping all around going down the road
its not acting like its only running on 7 cylinders
which is what i originally thought.
but its not
all the plugs were burning fine to a point
and the car has plenty of power just like it always has
ive asked some of my local f-body friends and they all say its either the opti or the fuel pump
i dont see how it can be either
the car is running.
never fails to start right up just like it always has
i thought if it was the opti it would be regular instead of the random way that it is
i figured if the fuel pump is going out it would take longer to crank, run really bad, or not wanna do anything when i stomp it.
so what i wanna know is,
what do yall think?
could it be one of those two?
or what else could it be?
i tried scanning the cpu but theres no power at the plug for the scanner
but even so i dont have a check engine light till after driving about 25 miles.
which that started when i cut the catyletic converter off.
so i dont think the scanner would even pick anything up seeing as the computer isnt recognizing that there is a problem other than there not being a cat.
am i wrong?
if so what should i do?
ive had the car almost a year and its never given me any issues.
heres the regular maitanence
10w-30 mobile 1 every 2500 miles
i only run 93 octane fuel from shell
i usually run seafoam through the vaccum line once every 4 months (roughly 4 oil changes)
and the occasional gas addiditive such as seafoam, lucas, or NOS fuel cleaner.

You mean the thing in between the intake elbow and filter correct?

 

Yeah the MAF is the part between the Filter and the TB. You need to get MAF cleaner to clean it. It looks something like this...

The last I checked it was clean
I don't think it's my problem
The car hardly has power sometimes

 

have you checked your o2s mine does it every time it rains (gets a little moisture in the connections)

 

well after $400 and 3 days ive figured out why my car was running like crap
my opti was wore out.
rebuilt it,
still ran like crap.
saw the coil wire sparking on the water pump.
changed it,
still ran like crap,
changed all the other plug wires,
purrs like a kitten
and now that its getting sufficient spark from the opti
it has more power than it has since ive owned it
;D

keep your air filter clean also. I was dumb enough one time to let a dirty air filter sit there and probably let all sort of crap get to the maf.
