Service Engine Soon
Well, I have my 1999 Camaro SS that has no cats. So when I connected the obd2 scanner I expected codes in regards to the cats. I got P0332, P0420, P430... P0332 means knock sensor 2 below threshold. The other two are catalyst below threshold which I expected. I want to know if the P0332 is a result of no cats. If it helps, once in a while I get a knocking noise in the car. Any suggestions will help! Thanks

I would say no the knock sensor code is fairly common on these cars and usually due to a faulty sensor. Its a hard enough job that you should replace them both while youre in there

I am going to change them out this week. Also, since I am down there I want to torque down the coolant lines that run under the intake manifold( I am leaking coolant there). I seem to get a thin layer of coolant under the throttle body. where the timing chain cover connects to block. Are there any gaskets there?
Will having no cats affect the performance of the car? I just want to know if the 2nd o2 sensor will mess with the air to fuel ratio and make the car run lean etc...

Removing cats will increase horse power in most applications however it will decrease your mileage to the tank. (2mpg city usually)
Knock sensors are fairly common issues, I would also replace your fuel filter and spark plugs while you do the knock sensors.
I made a day out of removing my intake manifold by cleaning everything while I removed parts. I would suggest using a shop vac to suck dirt out of the valleys around the intake manifold before you remove it just to prevent dirt from getting into the valces

p0420 and 430 are catalyst efficiency codes thrown due to the pcm is seeing the rear o2 sensor mimic fronts you can a resistor to make the voltage return to .450 mv also there are gaskets on the cylinder head vent lines under intake and the valley pan gasket maybe leaking inspect everything and replace as necessary

If the gasket for the head vents are ripped is that a dealer item only or will Autozone have it?

there is a connector at the rear of driver side head that clips on a bracket DO NOT forget to reclip it to the bracket i like to put things back exactly how they go and make sure you route the harness correctly or youmay have some trouble getting the intake to sit flush also i like to put a little rtv around nock sensor grommets to seal them off from weather all though not common on ls1s notorious on 5.3s and 6.0s
