Default Another car won't start thread...

Heres the situation

Wife drove to work, car ran out of gas, filled up to half a tank, no start...

Cannot hear the fuel pump or feel it while underneath, when cranking it over it sounds like the starter is going but not even a little putter of coming alive. Any other suggestions to help out before I tear out the fuel pump and replace it would be appreciated.

btw.. Car is a 98 Z/28 A4

Sounds like you killed the fuel pump. I'm not the best source but I know that the pumps are cooled by the fuel and running these cars low on fuel can be detrimental. Can you hear it prime when you turn the key to ON? Check your Schrader valve and fuel related fuses as well.

hot fuel pump and fresh fuel fill is usually when the pump fails. the quick temperature change usually causes weak pump motor winding to fail.
check your fuel pressure

I didn't hear it prime at all. I'm sure the pump had enough time to cool when she put gas in it cause it took 20 mins or so to get it to the pump.
First and cheapest would be the fuses so thats what I'll try then the fuel pressure and ultimately replacing the fuel pump. Thanks guys

I've been searching for a thread on removing the fuel pump but I'm not having any luck.

It's either tank and axel, or cut a trap-door.
Pick your poison.

You will have to cut a trap door. Fuel pump is towards the trunk area in the middle. Best process is to cut it all the way off and make a hange system to make it a door

you can cut a trap door. just cut three sides and fold it up, replace the pump, fold it down and caulk/seal it

I cut a trap door out and got the assembly out today. I bought a Walbro pump from our local performance shop and they only sold me the pump nothing else so I need to go talk to them about that. They told me is was a plug and play and no other modification was required but I can clearly tell the electrical connectors are different. Does anyone know what all is supposed to come with the pump and installation kit?

get a mallet and as someone cranks the engine with the key bang on the tank or if you have a lift drop the tank and check voltage
