My first Fbody
I recently purchased my first firebird. 1997 Firebird Formula WS6 which I have heard is 1 of 473 formula ws6 combo made in 97. I have a couple issues going on that I really need advice about what I need to do before it gets worse. First, is the noisy rear end. It starts at 45mph and gradually gets louder. I have heard that it is just a firebird thing, but I am not sure as speed increases it sound like a multi tone wah wah sound, when I press the clutch it stops. 2nd the transmission makes not a loud grinding noise but a mild rattle when I get going in first gear. It doesn't do it the whole gear just about a second or so. Also when I press the clutch to shift in hear a pop but only when shifting to 2nd and 3rd gears... It hasn't ever grinded or had trouble going into gear. And third when it is warmer outside when I open the gas cap, it has pressure in the gas tank... Any advice or information will be greatly appreciated!

Also I forgot to add that the oil has been changed every 3500 miles with Mobile 1 Synthetic, the whole car is FLAWLESS and this is what confuses me so bad because of the condition its in!

It gets noisy when there is no fluid or low, don't ask how I learned that one. The noise taking off in first could be one of a few things, clutch chatter, pilot bearing, throwout bearing, something in the tranny or not enough rpm causing the engine to ping around

does it ever pop out of gear by itself? that could be syncros .... the tranny is pretty stout but if it was ever power shifted ...all bets are off..
change the fluid and hope for the best...
These cars have weak 7" rear ends that were never designed to take any real power. ...eventually it will blow up and give you a big repair expense.
