Broken wheel hub?
Hi,
My friend called me over to look at his car as he thought the upper control arm on the front passenger side of his 95 formula was broken. I went over to take a look, and all the control arms and suspension pieces looked fine, however it feels like the wheel hub (i don't know if that's what its really called - its the part where the rotor and wheel connect to the car. the wheel basically feels like its about to fall off, as it rotates about his point pretty freely. Any idea what piece is actually broken? I didn't get a chance to actually take the wheel off. Let me know your thoughts. thanks

Lift the car up and grab the wheel at 12:00 and 6:00 and wiggle it. If you have play then the wheel bearing is shot. If you are driving and turn the wheel back and forth a bunch of times and hear / feel a grinding in the front end change tone, wheel bearing. If you grab the wheel at 3:00 and 9:00 and wiggle the wheel and feel play, then you need to check ball joints, inner and outer tie Rod ends. For inner tie rods, have someone wiggle the wheel while the car is in the air at 3 and 9 and put your hand on the inner tie Rod and feel for play / clunking. To check outter tie rods and bAll joints, use a pair of channel locks and apply pressure to the top and bottom while using a pry bar between the mounting points and move it up and down to see if there is any play. Be careful not to damage the boot.
