Default Need Help!!

Short version: When i went to start my motor a loud noise happened and it broke the starter where it bolts up.

Long Version: I tried to start my car and it broke the starter on the inside bolt hole. It also broke the outside bolt hole on the block. so i got a new shortblock nd put it in and went to start it and a loud noise happened and thank god it just broke the starter this time. What could possibly be causing this to happen? i noticed one of the starter bolts are bent but im guessing that happened on the first go around and wouldnt cause it to happen again. Any ideas would be helpful.

hmm. all to torque specs on the bolts? From one of the threads i was reading on the subject, the unbalanced mounting brackets are to blame because of unequal torque when the starter is cranked. I would recommend putting in a truck starter that has equal length mounting bolts (as opposed to one short one long) just got mine in and its doing great. cheaper and easier to find too. pic for reference stock on left truck starter on the right

yeah they were torqued properly. Is it necessary to shim the starter?

Get the truck starter with TWO long bolts....if you don't you're gonna break the mount off the block next.

I got one off ebay for $70.00, including the extra longer bolt....its a beast and its 2 years old.
It was a royal pain in the *** to get a welder over my house, get under the car and weld my mount back to my block. luckily its been holding for 2 yrs so far.

Yeah it spins over fine. It actually turned over a couple times before it locked and broke the starter
