Default Plug wire question

Im changing spark plugs and wires in my 02 TA. My question is, what is this silver metal jacket piece that is coming off with the wire on the plug side. I'm guessing it is supposed to come off and I insert my new wire inside this then put it back on the plug?

It is a heat shield.
Yes re-install them on your new plug wires.

Hmm that's interesting. Im using MSD wires as well. It would definitely make popping on the wire a lot easier
BTW, changing plugs and wires makes me hate my car!! I'm on the back 2 on the passenger and called it quits for the day

I am sorry, I was assuming you were using stock replacement wires. If you are using MSD or any other quality wire, you don't need to use the heat shields.

Cool thanks man.
I read lots of threads before changing the plugs/wires and no where did it mention the metal heat shields come off with your plug. I thought I was yanking **** out of the motor!! lol
I'm going to take them off tomorrow. Should be easy since the driver side is cake
