Default Rattle is driving me crazy!!

Ok i posted about this a couple months ago and never got a great answer. When i start my car (01 ws6) a rattle comes from the back end but is definitely not from under the car. Sounds like the wing area possibly. For sure top side of the back. Cant hear it from outside the car only inside. One day its really bad the next its so so. Any ideas

Umm, licence plate maybe? Or a loose bolt somewhere

Take everything out of the spare tire well and see if the noise goes away. Lots of stuff back there to rattle and lots of places little things can hide...

Have you tried starting the car with the hatch open? Do you still hear the sound?

I have a similar rattle. I thought it was the rear hatch mechanism but I have tightened it, zip tied it, greased it, everything I can think of and something back there still rattles. Tried taking out all the spare stuff and still no luck.

Any other ideas?

I had a real bad squeaking noise "I thought" it was where my t-tops sat
But it ended up being my car jack rubbing something in there so I took it out no more squeaking, hopefully that will help you out.

I noticed a squeeky rattle, It sounds louder in the car than outside, found it, I can put my foot on a flowmaster pipe out the back and noise stops.

something to check with car engine off, go to rear of car and push rear car side to side and then bumper up and down. see if rattles or squeeks is still there. Will be a way isolate exhaust or suspension.

Check your taillight. I had one there that drove me nuts till I found it. Look for rub marks when you take it out. If that's it then put a piece of foam under it and that will fix it.

I had a rattle on mine during cold starts and it ended up being the passenger side flange/rubber for the tailpipe/muffler.

The first thing I would try especially if you have an aftermarket exhaust is the passenger side hanger near the back trunk. The rubber gets worn and you get a very slight medal to medal grind.

I recently grinded the medal down but my rubber bushing is almost gone so I bought the walker 35648 hanger. I'm going to try this on my car people say it works on 98 and later but actual part number claims it wont, shall see on my 02 ws6.

Here is another post on this hanger problem...>

More than likely you wont reenact that sound by just shaking the back of your car if it is the exhaust. The grind is usually caused by the vibration of the exhaust flowing through.

Another thing you can try is removing the spoiler (pull the plastic and unbolt with 10mm), check for anything loose maybe if your not original owner glass was replaced and theres a piece or two inside the trunk or the rubber o rings holding the spoiler down are worn.

check your third brake light under the rear spoiler. the plastic where the screws hold it cracks and the red plastic assembly sits loose and can rattle around. i used some plastic epoxy from home depot to reinforce it and reinstall it.

It's the speaker covers on the speakers that are in the hatch. Mine always rattled terribly on the camaro because I had solid motor mounts, I went nuts and tore everything out of the trunk 1 piece at a time. It's the grill cover on the hatch area speakers
