Default Accelerating with AC on

hey guys,

I noticed my car is A LOT slower with the AC on and bogs/needs more throttle to get her going from a dig. I know AC is parasitic but it feels like I lose 50 HP with it turned on...ur thoughts?

I never felt any difference when my car was bone stock. Also, if you really get into the throttle the A/C shuts OFF while you're accelerating hard. NOT POSITIVE....but I think if you go 85% throttle or more, it shuts OFF.

50 HP loss........by feel......is A LOT........something else must be wrong. Maybe the compressor is about to go and its getting hard to turn.

If things don't go just right from a dig, it can make the car bog badly. As mentioned above, the A/C stops under hard acceleration. When you accelerate hard from a dig, it probably takes the car a moment or so to disable the A/C... but as you know, a moment of hesitation at that point can be the difference between a great launch or the car falling on it's face. If you anticipate needing a fast launch and full acceleration, you may just need to turn the A/C off. I don't know that realistically there is a way of getting around that... maybe someone else can chime in with a different suggestion.

AC on has never caused my car to bog, or any other v6/v8 car I've owned. That's another issue going on.

My V6 doesnt bog , feels like it needs a touch more of throttle to launch as quickly when the A/C is on but like mentioned above , the A/C turns off at 90% Throttle and turns back on once the throttle is at 85% or below..

I dont really do spirited driving when the A/C is on but I have easily went 100+ with the A/C on , on the highway and didnt feel a power loss , like I said , just needs a bit more of a throttle when going from a dig..

I can totally tell a difference when my AC is on. Next time you're accelerating... turn your AC on WHILE you're accelerating and you can feel your car lose power as it turns the compressor.

I think that what you're talking about is normal. 50HP? I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case because it definitely uses a lot!

I also don't think that the compressor clutch can disengage fast enough after you accelerate to 90 %. Think about how long it takes for it to disengage after you turn off your AC (you can hear it)

Long story short... I think that what you're experiencing is normal. Every single time I plan on accelerating more than like 3500 rpms I'll turn off my AC. It robs power for sure, and I also heard that it's bad for the compressor to run that fast.
