The hardest part looks like knowing where to drill the panel to expose the rivets, any advice on drilling the panel?

Be sure to purchase a Dorman replacement motor. (A search will tell the story as to why.)

I'd get a regulator with the motor on it and four GM rivets. Takes about an hour to do including taking the door panel off.

Dont. Just put the regulator assembly in and be done with it.

I wouldn't bother with regulator replacement unless the window isn't going up straight or sitting correctly in the door.

Why would anyone want to replace the entire regulator assembly and spend more money when only the window motor is bad?

Yup, that regulator assembly will probably accompany the car to its final resting place. Don't over-fix the car, just fix it...

I don't think the regulator needs to be replaced, but it does need some love. Using some Sil-Glyde to lube up the tracks and rollers will keep everything working much better. (This is the original lube for these parts and will keep the reg happy.)

I've heard all this before on here but seriously I've seen TONS of motors fail a year later because the regulator is not straight, worn out, or binding up. I highly recommend replacing it with the motor because its SOOO easy. No drilling into your already-weak fiberglass door needed and your not risking the window slipping and having the regulator spring unwind (talk about fuuuuun sh*t!!) either. Take my advice or leave it but I'm giving it from actual field experience not from bouncing forum to forum.

I replaced the driver's side motor on one of mine about 3 years ago. Original regulator works just fine still. Install was easy, the door has not crumbled from drilling access holes, and no horror stories have unfolded due to this repair.

This is good advice, and something I didn't remember to do last time I had the door apart. I will next time though.

Its really easy to swap the motors out no problem with anything else in the door though.
