So i was trying to do something good by painting my engine bay and turns out something isnt right, when i connected my battery back up went to turn on the car and the speedo doesnt work and the right blinker light is on. When i turn the car one the left blinker blinks but when i use the right turn signal the car shuts off. Any ideas

 

Here are some pictures that will hopefully trigger some responses, I dont know if the paint and the clear are not allowing a metal connection for the grounds,

Did you take the engine out? You probably have a problem with the speed sensor and a blown out turn signal bulb, bad flasher, or bad socket.

 

didnt take the engine out, just cleaned it up degreased it, sprayed it down, took it for a drive and no problems, came home started covering things up, un bolted some brackets took battery out, took grounds off, painted ... cleared... then put everything back and now im stuck



So a bad bulb will throw off the speedo also, the indicator line is facing straight down, i also noticed the high beams light in the cluster is faint but the beams arent on??????

No. I'm saying you probably have two different problems. These cars are at an age now where this stuff can happen at any time and one or both of your problems may not even be related to the work you just completed. I'd start by figuring out the blinker issue first - that's the easy one.


This is probably bleed-over from another light in the cluster. Another shining light behind the cluster can send some stray photons over to other icons in the overlay. If your turn signal indicator is solidly on - this is probably why. When it blinks, you'd probably never notice this.

 

Alright i figured out my blinker issue, it was just a stupid ground i hid but my speedo is still face down, so i unplugged my battery for the day and hope that it returns to normal,
