Default No A/C after a couple of days.

I have a 2000 z28 and my a/c does not work. I fill it up with freon and it loses it's cool after 3-6 days depending on how many times I use it. When I fill the port up it shows the psi rising on the gauge. There is this black box under the hood leading towards under the dash. It has a foam thing in it with a lot of cool air escaping out of it. Can anyone tell me what this box is or what I can do to replace it, or seal it up.

Lines are cool
A/C is on max
it just does not last.
Psi drops after I unhook gauge and hook it back up in a matter of seconds
(as air is lost from Mystery black box)

Take a picture of the black box. I assume its a fitting on re firewall where the ac line meets the wall. Check to make sure the bolts on the ac line going into the box are tight. If they are right and you are still losing freon you need to replace your ac lines and the dryer

Thanks. I'll take a picture of it as soon as I get a chance. And check the bolts.

Here are the pics that show you that black box where the a/c is releasing alot of cool air in the direction to the front of the vehicle.

The evap core and heater core is inside that box. If you're feeling cool air from around there it is just leaking when you're running the a/c. Look for any holes in it and seal them up. Your a/c system has a leak somewhere. Put some u/v dye in it and charge it up then get a blacklight and find the leak.

Nice. One more question. That black box has a soft black foam/stirafoam coming out of it. Is that supposed to happen.

The foam is what they use to seal where the a/c lines go to the evap core and also to the heater core. My evap core also had some foam around it. Not normal for it to happen and that's probably why it's leaking air to the outside.

There's some good info on how to on the forum. You can get to the evap and heater core taking the glovebox. Beats the hell out of pulling the dash . If you're planning on replacing the evap I would go ahead and do the heater core also. Cheap insurance.
