Default Need help with leak on 2000 SS (pics)

The car only leaks a few drops at a time after it sits for a day or two, but want to jump on it before it gets bad as I am going to have to start driving the car daily soon.

Anyone know what this piece here is? Whatever it is it's very saturated with whatever kind of fluid is leaking. Located towards the passenger side, sorry I know it's probably very hard to distinguish but I figured it's worth a shot

This is the fluid that's leaking. Looks a lot like oil to me but I'm not really sure.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance for any sort of help.

its the y pipe hanger. I usually take brake cleaner and wipe down the underside of the car. Ill drive it around for a while and let it sit over night and check it the next day for where its coming from.

Where is the tailshaft seal located? Wouldn't that be more towards the rear? These drops are coming from towards the front. Couldn't be trans fluid being as dark as it is, should still be good, I changed it around 10k miles ago.

I may try this, that's a pretty good idea

Definitely possible, an oil leak was actually my first thought, the fluid on my garage floor sure does look a whole lot like it

the tailshaft seal is where the driveshaft goes into the transmission...
it gets on the driveshaft and gets flung around.

Trans fluid would be dark red in color... and you would see evidence of it on the tunnel.

Alright cool, but now that you say this though I actually don't think this is the problem because it only leaks when it's sitting dead cold for a day or two. Never leaks anything when it's running.

This is what I thought, but this is starting to look more like oil to me than anything, just have to figure out where exactly it's coming from. Drove it around for a bit today, oil pressure and everything is fine, kind of strange

I've seen plenty, some turn black, some turn dark brown/varnished.

We're assuming he checked his fluid and it is not burnt and not low... but yes it could be what you said.

You don't see any evidence of it on the tunnel above the yoke seal (tunnel is not wet, looks like it was once tho).

He could smell the leak substance, this will give a clue to where it's from.

It would blow me away if it was trans fluid, it should still be good, like I said I changed it like 10k ago, along with a gasket. I've had to drive this car about 50 miles within the past 2 days and nothing out of the ordinary has gone on, hasn't leaked a drop since I posted this thread. Going to get up under it and see what's what underneath very soon though.

I don't think it's trans fluid.
