Default Shop cost to replace AC compressor

Any one have a good idea on labor price to replace the AC on a 99 trans am? That includes replacing the compressor, dryer, orifice, flush, vacuum, freon etc... I'd buy the parts and they would install. I got quoted $350-400

I would say around 4 hours labor, whatever the rate is in your area, so $400 sounds fair for the full job.
doing the mechanical work of installing compressor and flushing lines isn't that hard and doesn't take too much time, 2-3 hours is fair. then another hour or more for doing a pressure test then vacuum test, then charge the system. i would get the specifics of what they actually do- if they purge the system with nitrogen and pressure check first. if not make sure they give you a written warranty on the compressor and their work. also be sure of the warranty description on the compressor from wherever you buy it from, sometimes it's better to let the shop get that and let them deal with the warranty from the compressor manuf.

Labor Times from Mitchell OnDemand

a/c compressor - 1.1
dryer - 0.6
Flush - 1.0
Orfice - 0.5
Evac and Recharge - 1.4

Total Labor time 4.6

Total labor cost 404.88

Just expect that if you have a shop do it there will be absolutely no warranty if you supply your own parts.
