*knock on wood* I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch, but! I did get myself a Diablo intuner, did the updates and all that, programmed the car, went for a spirited drive. No sound!
Only thing I did that was different was making the air/fuel ratio a tad rich. But the difference! OMG
I won't be changing the knock sensors after all, but I will be putting on a pair of magnaflow cats.
Thanks to all those you helped

After taxes a small 450$ CAD. Try using this link to find a dealer near-by;

Tracking down detonation is a PITA. I'd suggest:
- Check the back of the throttle blade for oil, even though you have a catch can. If it's wet with oil, the cc isn't doing much. LS6 PCV setup will help.
- Check for vacuum leaks. Also check the crankcase vacuum - there should be some at idle, if not there may be a leak in the PCV system.
- Is your gas E10? The stock tunes from 98-02 do not take ethanol into account, stoich is 14.2 for E10 not 14.7. This requires one of the PCM editors to change it.
- Seafoam doesn't do anything, in my experience.
- Do a leakdown test.

I'll take a look at the throttle blade, and check for leaks as well.
I found a Huskey gas station that offers 94 octane with "may contain up to 10% ethanol".

I know this thread is getting old, but here's an update.
Thanks to diablew and his custom tune there is no more issue, turns out she was just out of tune.
Thanks for everyones input on this, and thanks to Lew for the hook up.
