when I drained the gas I drained it by using the fuel pump to push it out of the fuel rail so im sure that is working. I will check the spark right now and can double check the fuel pressure.

try starting it again but cycle the key from off to on where the gauges light up, BUT DO NOT ENGAGE THE STARTER, three times, then try starting it.

if you have to do this to start it, your pump is clogged up and or ruined and you need to replace it.

The fact you got it up and running and drove it says that you have spark, but whether or not it is being dropped we dont know.

just did a fuel pressure test and it was 58psi, 58psi, 59psi so the pressure is good. spilt some fuel out of the test port so im not going to check the spark until tomorrow. im just not understanding the issue

its one of those great mysteries!! I used to own a camaro v6 5 speed that if I ran it for a while, it would not restart for at least 20 minutes. Something with it was just not working. I tried the ignition, straight wired the fuel pump, new plugs and wires, EVERYTHING!! except for the stuff like crank sensor, new distributor, all the sensors that you could replace. I did all the old school stuff, and now it takes all the new sensor based diagnosis to get it figured out. If you are trying to sell it before winter, it may be worth having the dealer take a look at. I know you dont want to consider that option, but i think we are about out of suggestions except for replacing the ecu with one that works, and if that doesnt work, the replace the harness in case something got in there and chewed through something.

any 1 should do the trick. It lets you know the ECU is telling the plugs to fire.
