how much gear oil do i need for my rear diff?

Default how much gear oil do i need for my rear diff?

Gonna change the rear diff fluid in my car and need to know how much, its a 2000 z28 with posi 3.23 gears. Factory rear and gears, a4.

About 1.75 quarts.

For the differential?! That would be enough to do almost 3 rear end services.

Not surprised that a chain auto parts store employee would say this though. They probably think it's the same as an engine oil change.

Lmao yeah you're probably right, its been so long since I did it I couldn't remember and I asked while I was in there picking up spark plug wires, and I knew it wasn't 5 lol

Yea just under 2 or when it overflows. Also make sure you do it on level ground. I parked my car on a slight hill but on rhino ramps so it balanced out.

I never listen to the autoparts guys, always come here for the right info

Yeah I had one tell me I needed 6 quarts of gear oil for my T-56 when I brought up 4 quarts of ATF, because ALL manual need gear oil... I told him to just sell me the damn ATF and after I got my Credit Card back I told him to get an education.
