Default Fuel gauge acting weird

I don't drive this car much but notice at times fuel gauge will read completely empty. Drive the car around it starts to work. Anywhere else besides gauge and dropping the tank that could be causing the problem?

Thanks

Some people have had some success putting a 20 ounce bottle of the Techron Fuel System Cleaner in about an 1/8 tank of fuel in hopes of freeing/cleaning the fuel level sensor's pivot/arm.

IF you are going to bother to actually drop the tank (MAJOR pain), I would replace EVERYTHING else under there at the time (WHOLE fuel pump assembly {Delphi makes the best for OEM/stock power levels}, fuel pressure regulator, EVAP canister, etc.), not just the level sensor/float/arm.
AND flush out the tank with a plastic friendly solvent.

It is that much of a PIA.
