Troubleshooting power steering pump leak? Hi all
so i been noticing that my power steering fluid was very low last month and the car (2002 camaro ls1) was making a whining noise on left turns.
I put almost a quart of power steering fluid and noise was gone.
2 weeks later i drive the car, and same noise comes back... half of quart of fluid was gone!!!
Is this a sign of power steering pump going bad or is this just a leak that can be tracked down? if yes, how?

With that much leakage, you should see evidence of fluid all over the place.
If not, you'll want to check your coolant dipstick for alien slime. If your coolant doesn't look right, your PS Cooler is bleeding over to the coolant system. If your coolant is clear, I'd think you should be able to see that kind of leak happening with the engine running.

My power steering had a huge leak like yours. The power steering hose line ($30 Autozone) was the issue. It took about 15 min to replace. Look under the car and hood to find the source of the leak. With a leak that bad, it should be easy to find like mine was.
If you turn the wheel all the way to the left/right, it may gush some fluid.

It could be front seal on the pump or the seal between the pump and reservoir. Could be either one of the two lines from pump to steering rack or it could be the steering rack itself. If you get under the car you should be able to see where it is coming from. If its a big mess get a can of brake clean and clean it up down there and then fill your fluid reservoir. Drive it for a day and then get back under it and see where the leak is coming from.
