Steering Column Configurations?

How many are there? Lets say I find a donor that does not have the notorious downward slop due to a pivot pin issue. Do I need to pay any attention to the year and or transmission?

All I know about is that there is a difference in the V6 and V8 steering rack. so I would assume the shaft would be different.
