Default Caliper removal = Brake bleed necessary?

Having a sort of debate with someone about this. If LS1 brake calipers are removed, is it necessary to bleed the brakes after? In other words, does removing the brake line from the caliper cause the brake pedal to go to the floor if you don't bleed them because air is now in the system? Or is it ok to just hook the lines back up as long as you don't let too much fluid drip out?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts/experiences

ANY disconnecting of the brake line from ANY point, requires bleeding, it's not about fluid loss as much as it's about AIR INFILTRATION, you need to get the AIR out of the system.

yes yes yes. caliper replacement ALWAYS requires bleeding. If replacing a master cylinder you don't have to bleed it IF you have thoroughly bench bled it

I agree with this 100%!

Anytime the system is open to atmosphere in any kind of way it needs to be bled to ensure that all the air is out of the system.

I just did this replacing my pistons, and cleaning the calipers while they were taken off. The easiest method I found to bleed mine were just letting it gravity bleed itself. Took about 20 min. I watched it closely like the thread said and made sure the bowl stayed full. Not much fluid came out, but alot of air did.
