gears The headlight motor has a nylon gears in it. When it gets warn down, it starts to grind. You have two options. Open up the motor, and flip the gear 180 degrees (the motor only spins it 180, so one side is untouched), or go ahead and do what I did, buy some metal gears, from brent franker. headlight fix . Was like 82 dollars, worth every penny. 
Both of my headlights had the famous 5 second grind. I fixed them for free and that was money well spent. My housings had split open and would cause the grind when they closed. I took them out, took pieces of metal strapping and screwed them to the housings so they wouldn't split again. Problem solved.
