Rack & Pinon ???
The F41 description as: Remanufactured Hydraulic Power Steering Rack & Pinon [Complete Unit]; with Firm Ride-Handling Suspension F41
The FE2 description as: Remanufactured Hydraulic Power Steering Rack & Pinon [Complete Unit]; with Ride, Handling Suspension (FE2)
My car comes with the FE2 but if the F41 is a better system then that's what I want.
If your door sticker says it has the FE2 suspension package, then get that rack.
If your door sticker says it has the FE2 suspension package, then get that rack.
Looking at my original parts manual I see the following GM part numbers:
98-99 (FE2, FE4, FE7): 26060047
98-99 (F-print is smudged, Excluding Y87): 26044843 / Delco 36-9026
00-02 (FE2, FE4): 26062311
00-02 (F41, Y87): 26062311
00-02 (F41, Excluding Y87): 26077996 / Delco 36-9212
FE2 = Suspension system, ride and handling
FE4 = suspension system, special ride and handling
FE7 = suspension system, front and rear heavy duty
F41 = suspension, firm ride handling, front and rear
Y87 = performance enhancement 3800GT
I'm sure by now these numbers have been superseded.
My 02 SS only has FE4 on the door tag, I'll have to check my paperwork to see what part number was used to replace my rack last year.
I'm not really sure which of these is better than the other though.
when ordering they mentioned there were 2 different ratio's available for my 2002 camaro SS.
Had to tell them with my oem rack there was at most 2-1/4 turns of the steering wheel lock to lock, and I have FE4 on the door sticker.
The replacement rack they sent, the part number on the housing matched the number on my oem rack.
what the other ratio that is available i do not know,
and whether this info applies to other years and styles of F-body cars i do not know.
Most of the R&P I price are for FE2 and FE4, making me think that over the yrs they just merge the 2 together and you get the WS6 one in the end. I haven't seen any FE2 only R&P.
