Default Replacing window motor question... help!

Well i got the old motor out and the new one installed... everything seems to work good.

But looking closer at the motor...there is a small gap between the motor and the door bracket at one of the bottom holes. (about 1/16-1/8")

I cannot close the gap anymore with the supplied hardware. Im debating putting a thin washer between the door bracket and the motor to get a solid joint. Or my other option would be to get some better hardware where I can really torque them down...and maybe draw everything together.

I dont think its a good idea to have this "soft" joint. I'm not sure why its not sitting flat at three bolted joints. I suspect the bracket on the door is tweaked.

I'm not sure I understand what you're describing. I think you are talking about bolting the motor and regulator to the door. There is a tab or hook on the regulator that is inserted in a hole in door shell which will help hold the assembly in place while bolting it to the door. If this tab was trapped behind the door, it would hold the assembly out from the door. Could this be your problem?

I found a picture on Shbox.com that illustrates what I'm referring to.

I'm talking about the motor bolting to the bracket on the door. Doesnt seem to sit flat. I see what your saying about the regulator tab...I didn't remove that..tab is correct.

The window motor has a shoulder on the gear shaft that inserts into the regulator. I had trouble lining up this shoulder because movement of the regulator gear put tension on the motor causing the shaft and hole to misalign. If you look at the regulator gear and the motor housing, they don't seem to be parallel to one another. Could just be an optical illusion, but they should be.

I just checked your photo. You have a bent window regulator. The window motor does NOT mount to the door panel, it mounts to the window regulator and the window regulator is riveted to the door panel.
You can "try" to use a screw with a bolt head and torque it down and see if it molds back into place but if not the only fix is a new regulator. If your new motor is working without problems I would leave the regulator alone as you can cause more problems than fixing if you don't know what you're doing (as in...a whole new door) if it's having problems let me know and I will tell you the easiest way to replace it. I had to do one. It's quite a job.

Thanks guys. I took a closer look everything is assembled correctly and the window functions perfectly. I placed a washer between the two parts to fill the gap. Will go with that and see how it goes.

Yeah, if everything is working and nothing is loose or moving, don't mess with the regulator, alot of bad things can happen trying to remove that thing. If it comes to be that you DO have to remove the regulator, then you MUST leave the window motor INSTALLED on the regulator before you begin removing it or it will take your hand off.
