Default Window question

So I think that the passenger window has failed. I buy a new motor, pull the old one out hook up the new motor and it doesn't work either. It only turns in one direction, up. I hook the old motor up and same thing motor will only go when the switch is in the up position.
What am I missing? is there a relay in the system that is gone? I checked the wires to the switch they seem to be alright. I will get the test light out tomorrow and play with it more but this is odd.
The car has been parked for a year and the window worked when I parked it.

Will the window operate by using the driver door controls? The polarity is reversed in the switches to raise and lower the window. The fact that the window goes up, but not down would probably an indication one of the right door switches is not operating properly. I've attached a schematic.

See if you are getting any voltages after the switch

If you all look at the schematic, the driver's side control goes THROUGH the passenger's side switch. So, if the passenger's side switch is bad, noting may work. (Depending on how the contacts are failing.)

The only failproof way is to unplug the harness at the passenger side switch and test it with a continuity tester.

dumb question but have you tried both switches? drivers and passenger side?

Edit: Ignore this, I just saw your response earlier in the thread.
