Default Ac problems and questions

Hey guys I was wonder of I remove the aluminum line for the ac circled in Blue in the picture I uploaded will I lose refrigerant? I want to remove to see if the orifice tube is plugged. My ac blows air, but it's not cold. I'm pretty sure it's the compressor as it seems to be leaking, but just going to make sure the orifice tube is clean. Also I have ac manifold gauges but I'm not sure how they work or where to hook them up. Anyone want o explain that to me? Thanks

Chances of that line at that area being clogged is minimum. Yes you will lose all of your refrigerant too. Most likely a leak or failed compressor. Start from the basics and go from there. Check the charge. See if the compressor turns on. Look for leaks etc.

The LP line/receiver dryer (top line) has already been replaced once. The line below it is the HP line with HP cutout switch. If your compressor is still original it's a good source for failure via the casing seal. A typical kit for a quality Delphi/AC Delco compressor will run $325-$375 for the compressor, LP line with receiver/dryer, and an expansion tube. Any time the system gets opened up it's best to replace both the tube and dryer....they only cost $30-$50 for the pair. It's the compressor that's the big bucks. The HP line runs around $80.

If you a combination of greenish or yellowish moisture/oil on the bottom of your compressor....it's likely leaking from the casing seal. To get a decent warranty on a compressor, the seller typically always wants the LP line and orifice tube replaced as well.

why do you say the top line has already been replaced once? Are you saying I can get compressor and all parts for less than 400? When to auto zone today and they quoted me about 530. I have an orange ish colored leak. Do you think I should get an ac manifold gauges an check the system or just replace everything since it seems to be leaking from the compressor which I'm guessing is telling me that the compressor is bad. Though the clutch does kick on.

You can get the compressor and parts for less than 400 on rockauto but they don't warranty parts unless defect out of the box within 90 days. The compressors are known to leak freon, so the compressor is good but it's bad because it won't hold freon

I think mines leaking oil though. If its leaking oil would it a good idea to get the AC manifold gauges or should I just use that money to buy a new compressor and other required to replace it?

Compressor oil should be clear or have a slight greenish tint.

You should add a can of Freon with UV dye into the car, and then purchase the 15.99 UV light kit from AutoZone to make sure the leak is only at the compressor.

When you remove a line or a compressor and the system is exposed to outside air you will need to replace the dryer, and since the orrifice tube is cheap replace that too. It is also highly recommended to replace every a.c. o ring at the same time

If you buy a new a.c. compressor, drier, orrifice tube, and oil, from AutoZone they will give the compressor and all those components a lifetime warranty. I never plan to sell my camaro so that would be my plan

Ok so I bought ac manifold gauges this morning should use that or should I return those and just use a leak detection kit? Don't want to waste on something if I don't need it. My local autozone told me the denso compressor would only be warrantied for 2 years even of I bought everything from them.
when buying all new parts don't they already come with all new only rings?
Where is the expansion valve located?

Man the first thing you need to do is see if its charged. Hook the low pressure gauge up (it will be the blue ling on your gauge set. See how much pressure it has.

Oops caught me slipping on my words, I ment to say orrifice tube, not expansion valve.

http://m.autozone.com/cooling-heatin...a-c-compressor

Shows you can get a kit with lifetime warranty for $400

Full disclosure I work as a store manager for AutoZone. Not trying to sway you in any direction, I just prefer a lifetime warranty.
