Default LT1 not starting...clutch sensor?

So the last week or so, I noticed that I had to press down extra hard on the clutch in order to start the car. Well, it finally got to the point it wouldn't start at all, and I had to have a friend push me and dump it to get it back home.

I took off the bottom panels by the steering column and everything looked fine to my untrained eye, I even tried pushing the little black plunger thing down manually while trying to start it and it still wouldn't start.

I was thinking that since I had to progressively push down harder, that something down there just needed re aligned....but even pushing down on it all the way manually gave me no luck. What gives? Does that switch go bad often? If so, do local parts stores carry them?

There's nothing to align, it's just a switch. Bypass it with a small length of wire and plug it into the two pins in the connector, see if it starts that way.

I meant adjust, like something wasn't pushing in the button correctly. I will try that and report back.

They do go bad from time to time and are inexpensive to replace. You can unplug the switch and test it with a simple continuity tester.

If you've ever replaced the clutch M/C, that plunger also comes out of adjustment in the process and often needs to be adjusted in the bracket to get the plunger to match up correctly. (But it sounds like you've checked for this already.)

Thanks for the feedback.

I had time today to look at it more, I did the most simple test - ran a wire to complete the connection and bypassed the switch...works perfectly. I did find the switch at my local parts store for pretty cheap, but at least now I know what exactly was going on. Never happened to me before with my 5 previous F-bodies.

Glad you found the issue and it was something simple.
