Default could this have caused it?

For the last few years I had an ongoing issue, when sitting at a traffic light, sometimes at night with lights on, other times during the day. The volt meter gauge would momentarily dip to just under halfway, then return to normal, (if at night, the lights and dash would slightly dim) it would happen several times during driving. Since I have gotten my car back on the road this year, I have replaced the spark plugs and wires. Ever since I have done this, my gauge has been steady and never has done what it was doing before.

Did the car idle slower because of the old plugs and wires? A slower idle speed will have a lower voltage output.

Mine does this and I have new plugs, new wires, new alternator, new belts, new idler pulley on the alt bracket and new tensioner on the A/C routing. Battery is almost 5 years old which might be causing it. I would never have guessed plugs and wires would do it and still wouldn't bet on that. But hey if it's working for you rock on.

This type of thing typically first manifests itself with headlights dimming or surging and is often caused by loose or corroded grounds in the engine bay. However; any electrical short or transient disruption (like a cut spark plug wire) could cause this type of issue.)

Most likely you disturbed the exciter wire when changing the plugs, My 99TA did the dim the lights thing all the time until I unplugged the exciter wire and plugged it back in. No more lights dimming.

My gauge would jump all over the place when I had a taillight bulb out
