Default Back fires, hesitation ? 1999 ls1

Hello everyone. 1999 Z28. No cats, Car is backfiring and hesitating to get going. What can be the issues. Friend told me to spray the header with water to see if it steams or not. I cannot get a spray on the passenger side back plug to see if it steams. I get steam from the other pipes I checked. Any other causes you can throw at me. Check engine light is usually on due to no cats, ( comes and goes ). I didn’t check for codes.

You should do this first. Otherwise, you are just working through a sequence of guesses.

Agreed. These are not old carb'ed engines, there are a lot more things that can go wrong. Use the DTC data to guide you towards the most likely problem areas and/or rule certain things out, rather than just tossing parts and time at it.
