Hey guys. I am changing out my headlight plastic gears for brass ones found on eBay. After popping open the housing, I found a lot of debri and rust. I’m wondering if I should purchase new motors and put the brass gear in them or not.
Maybe be some of you have come across this and cleaning it up didn’t effect the use. Or maybe cleaning it up wasn’t enough and something went bad along the way later on.
^ So, they aren't magic and they don't help in all situations.
It looks like your rust problem is due to lack of grease. Since you are already sunk into the gears, I'd clean up what you have, put the metal gears in, grease everything up really well, and then give it a shot.
If that fails, then you can get new motors. (With the new motors, metal gears don't make any sense as new $1.00 plastic gears can pop in/out in a few seconds.)
