LS1 Lifter Knock/Design Question
Hi, everyone.
I have a question concerning the design-influenced dynamics of a lifter knock in a stock LS1 and the nature of the damage associated. Judging from pictures, it seems there can be only two mechanisms behind a lifter knock: a wear clearance in the bearing that makes contact with the camshaft and a wear clearance between the cylindrical body of the lifter and the lifter bore of the engine block. Now if it's the case that the knock is coming from the latter scenario, is it possible that the severity of wear sustained by the lifter bore could be such that the knock would persist even if a new lifter is installed due to the bore diameter having been enlarged by the frictional wear from the previous lifter?

Any insight is greatly appreciated.
